Overview
Salty Blood is an atmospheric 3D action horror played from a third-person perspective. Set in a dark port city in the late 1990s, the game combines low-poly visuals, dark environments and classic horror elements with modern approaches to combat, exploration and interaction.
The game takes place in Kamennaya Kosa, a remote industrial port where something has gone terribly wrong. Rusting containers, warehouses, underground passages, industrial facilities and narrow city streets form a world that still feels inhabited. There are people around, fires burning in the distance and signs of everyday life. But something has already begun to change.
Visual Style & Atmosphere
Salty Blood uses a deliberately low-poly visual style inspired by the aesthetics of the original PlayStation era. Simple geometric forms, low-resolution textures, limited visibility, harsh lighting, deep shadows and fog create a dark and oppressive atmosphere reminiscent of classic PS1 horror games.
The visual style is not only about recreating the look of older games. The limitations of the environment become part of the horror. Darkness can hide enemies, fog can obscure distant areas, and small sources of light can completely change how a location feels.
The port itself plays a major role in creating this atmosphere. Containers, warehouses, industrial equipment, narrow passages and dark water make Kamennaya Kosa feel like a real place rather than a collection of horror levels.
At the same time, the port is not completely abandoned. People still occupy parts of the area, homeless people gather around fires, lights remain on and signs of everyday life can be found throughout the environment.
This contrast between an ordinary working port and the unnatural events taking place around it is one of the defining elements of the game’s atmosphere.
Story
The story begins in the port, where an unexplained incident leaves traces of something strange in the water and around the cargo containers.
At first, the creatures encountered by the protagonist appear to be something familiar. They resemble vampires, moving quickly and attacking anything that gets too close. But as the protagonist investigates what happened, it becomes clear that the situation is far more complicated than a simple outbreak.
The source of the infection is connected to the water, the port and something hidden beneath the city. What initially looks like a local incident gradually reveals traces of a much older story.
But the deeper the protagonist goes, the more questions appear.
Gameplay
Salty Blood focuses on exploration, third-person combat and interaction with the environment.
The player moves through industrial and urban locations, searches for a way forward, discovers objects and clues, and fights creatures that become increasingly dangerous.
Combat is direct and physical. Weapons are limited, encounters can be dangerous, and positioning matters. Some enemies can be destroyed with critical attacks, causing their bodies to burn away and collapse into ash.
Interaction with the environment is another important part of the game. Instead of using only predefined animations, the protagonist can physically reach toward interactive objects. His hand movement is calculated dynamically using inverse kinematics, allowing interactions with buttons, levers and control panels to react naturally to the character’s position.
To be continued…
Salty Blood is only the beginning of a much larger story.
What starts as an unexplained incident in a port gradually leads somewhere much older and much deeper. The creatures, the water and the events beneath Kamennaya Kosa are only pieces of a story that has yet to be fully revealed.
For now, the port is only the first stop.
